Williams International
History

Williams International was founded on the vision of Dr. Sam B. Williams. In the early 1950's, Dr. Williams foresaw extensive markets for small gas turbine engines. These engines would provide the performance efficiencies of very large turbine engines in very small sizes by using revolutionary designs. Innovative manufacturing technologies would keep the manufacturing process simple and relatively low cost.

This vision prompted him to leave the security of Chrysler Corporation and, with his own very limited funds, start his own company, Williams Research Corporation, in 1955. (The company name changed to Williams International in 1981.)

The first contract was for an experimental gas turbine for a marine outboard. The successful gas turbine approach was different and unique for its application, a trait that would soon characterize the engineering, manufacturing, and management personality of the company. The Williams International employee team has taken the risks of using new ideas and has boldly introduced products and services that have changed the aerospace industry. Most noteworthy of these products are the miniature turbofans that enabled the creation of cruise missiles; the X-Jet flying platform; turbojets so small and inexpensive that the Navies around the world use drones powered by them to train their gunners; the simple, rugged FJ44/FJ33 family of turbofans that enabled the development of new categories of light and very light business jets. Our strong focus on customer service has earned us the No. 1 rating in Pro Pilot’s Product Survey Customer Survey for the last twelve years.

The company culture of continuous improvement in all aspects of our business is paramount to the success of each person and of the company. Williams International is privately owned, so the vision stays focused, communication is straightforward, decisions are made quickly, and efforts are concentrated efficiently. Resources, both funds and manpower, are assigned when and where they are needed most, allowing the company to adjust quickly and seamlessly.

Our product development, product support and administrative headquarters are located in Commerce Township, Michigan. A second facility in Ogden, Utah, is the most modern and efficient design-to-production gas turbine facility in the world. Through a combination of equipment improvements and management innovations, we have the development, manufacturing and product support capability and capacity to meet growth objectives in aviation, industrial, and military markets.

Williams International is the leader in small gas turbine engine development, manufacture and field support. We took the lead through customer focus, vision, innovation, determination and perspiration.
